What is Vector Art?

Vector is art  made up of points, lines, curves and shapes that are based on mathematical formulas. When you scale a vector image file, because it is high resolution, there's no loss of quality, so it can be sized to however large or small you need it to be.  It's an excellent tool for putting company logos on business cards, creating large banners or signs.  In the awards industry, vector art is widely used when laser engraving, glass or crystal etching or screen printing.

Any art created with illustration software like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw, is considered vector art.  The file extensions for vector art is (.ai) Adobe Illustrator, (.eps) Encapsulated Postscipt.  When these files are created in  one of these software programs,  they can then be converted to more widely used file types such as .jpg or .png.  You CAN NOT save a .jpg or .png to a vector art file and guarantee the file will be usuable. However in some cases a high resolution .jpg or .png can be traced or reDrawn into vector art.
